Attractions The Goose Creek area is steeped in history. While the origin of the city’s name is unknown, it has been called Goose Creek since the 1600s. Today, Goose Creek is a modern city with a small town feel but plenty of amenities. It is less than 30 minutes from Charleston and less than 2 hours from Columbia and Florence. There are six churches in the city including Harbour Lake Baptist Church and St. Mary's Episcopal Church. The city is also close to the Charleston Naval Weapons Station, which houses the Naval Nuclear Power School.

Goose Creek is close to New School University and Charleston Southern University, among other institutions. It is 90 miles from the University of South Carolina.
